In minimalist stories like ours, authors often use very short, simple sentences. These sentences:

• Build a specific rhythm or mood
• Slow the reader down to notice the meaning
• Emphasize emotional moments
• Leave space for reflection

Each sentence is short, but together, they say a lot.

Your Task:

• Find a passage in your reading that includes the use of simple sentences..
  • Copy it into your journal.
  • Underline or highlight every verb and subject.
• What do you notice? How does the sentence style feel? Calm? Lonely? Awkward?
• Now, write your own 3 short sentences that:
  • Use plain words
  • Feel slow and thoughtful
  • Express a quiet moment or emotion
