Magic Dust: Make a Weather Vane

Estimated Time: 15 to 30 minutes

The Admiral's house is described as very grand, in the shape of a ship, and with a gilt weathercock on top. Today, we might use the term weather vane to describe the attachment on the roof of the house.

A Weathercock is an iron rooster that would sit on the roof of a home and turn in the direction of the wind letting the homeowner know the weather. See a working weathercock below.

Today we are going to create a weather vane. For this project, you will need:

  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Needle
  • Rock salt
  • Tape
  • Glue
  • Straw
  • Wire
  • Cardstock
  • A Glass
  • Marker

Follow the instructions in the video below to create your weather vane.

Show us a picture of your weather vane in the comments. Did it work?
