For this book club, we will be using the book, Egg and Spoon by Gregory Maguire.
You can purchase it in digital, paperback, hardcover, and audio formats. It is also available at many local libraries. This is the only book you will need for this book club.
You will also need a notebook for your notes, copywork, dictation, and journaling.
Note to the Parent:
This imaginative fairy tale contains darker themes, including emotional abuse, kidnapping, parental loss, mental health struggles, violence, and themes of racism and sexual assault. While fantastical in style, several motifs are mature and potentially distressing—pre‑reading or guided discussion is advised.
I recommend this course for upper elementary age children and older. As with any children's resource, please refer to trusted sources for reviews before reading. For your reference, we have linked Common Sense Media's review.
