Join us on an epic tale of adventure, danger, and friendship about a reluctant hobbit who joins a quest and ultimately becomes a hero for your summer fun!
We're going to jump into some fun this summer with the thrilling and beloved book by the amazing J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit (or there again and back again).
Keep your kids delighted this summer with fascinating rabbit trails, engrossing literature, and engaging hands-on projects we like to call magic dust.
Check out the fun!
May 22-24 (11:00 CDT), Kickoff: Let's start off with a bang! We'll meet live and get to know our new book for the summer! I'll give you the rundown on how the online book club works, how to get the most of it and we'll get to introduce ourselves to the hobbit, elves, and the dwarves!
May 25-May 31 Week 1: We start our book club! You will receive a plan for the week in our private community. Use it the way it's set up or make it work for you and your family. The week will include reading, copywork, vocabulary, fun rabbit trails about creatures, music, runes, and funny British words, and we will finish up using our imaginations to conjure up hobbits and Gandalf in our sketching journals.
June 1 (1:00 pm CDT), First Live Book Club: Today, we'll meet up to discuss the book. We'll start with a few visualizations using the amazing Tolkiens descriptions. We'll talk about our Story Roller Coaster and brainstorm ideas for our own adventure story!
June 2-7, Week 2: Log in to the community for this week's plan! This week will include reading, copywork, vocabulary, fun rabbit trails about riddles, more creatures, and games. We'll finish up by sketching more characters and playing a British game!
June 8 (1:00 pm CDT), Second Live Book Club: Let's talk about what happened in our reading this week, add a few more visualizations, and learn more about our Story Roller Coaster. Today we might even create a riddle of our own!
June 9-14, Week 3: When you log in to the community for this week's plan, you will find: reading, copywork, vocabulary, fun rabbit trails about musical instruments, bobbing, and mining. We'll finish up by experimenting with buoyancy!
June 15 (1:00 pm CDT), Third Live Book Club: Let's talk about what happened in our reading this week, add one more visualization, and get started on our own adventure story. Today we might even perform a science experiment or two!
June 16-21, Week 4: Log in to the community and discover what's up for the last week of our summer camp! This week will include reading, copywork, vocabulary, fun rabbit trails about volcanoes, dragons, and mithril! (Um, what?) And this week, we'll really dig into our writing project and sketch and bake!
June 22 (1:00 pm CDT), Party School!: Every online book club must end with a PARTY SCHOOL!! That's right, we'll meet via Zoom to celebrate with food, decorations, and some more activities! We'll talk about the book - what we loved and what we hated! We'll finish up our adventure story and say goodbye to our friends, the hobbits... at least until we start reading The Lord of the Rings!
