Write: List Your Topics
Step 1: Brainstorm Broad Topics
Let’s get those ideas flowing!
Before you pick a research paper topic, it helps to start with broad subjects you’re already interested in. These are the “big buckets” where we’ll later narrow down a specific idea.
Think about things you read about, watch, talk about with friends, or even argue about at the dinner table.
Write down at least 5 general subjects that interest you. Here are some examples:
- Sports
- Music
- History
- Technology
- Space
- Social Media
- Education
- Mental Health
- Pop Culture
- Science
You can choose anything as long as you’re curious about it and there’s enough information out there to research.
Step 2: Pick Your Favorite
Now look over your list. Highlight or circle the one subject you’re most excited to explore.
This doesn’t have to be your final topic yet. We’ll narrow it down soon. But it’s helpful to focus your energy in one direction for now.
Step 3: Share
Once you’ve chosen your top subject, share it in the comments below. This helps you commit to the idea and see what others are exploring too (and you might get inspired by their lists!).
