You will also need a notebook or binder for your notes, vocabulary, and writing.
Parent Note:
This novel contains graphic and unsettling themes, including grave-robbing, murder, and death. There are scenes of violence, including the killing of children and family members, though descriptions are more gothic than gory. Themes of revenge, loneliness, and moral responsibility run throughout the novel. There is no profanity or sexual content, but the book is dark in tone and emotionally heavy. Families may wish to discuss with students the historical context of science, ethics, and Romantic literature to deepen understanding of the novel’s big questions.
