For this book club, we will be using the book I am Malala: How One Girl Stood Up for Education and Changed the World (Young Readers Edition) by Malala Yousafzai with Patricia McCormick. You can purchase it in digital, paperback, hardcover, and audio formats. It is also available at many local libraries.
You will also need a notebook or binder for your notes, vocabulary, and writing.
Note to the Parent:
This inspiring memoir describes Malala’s courageous stand for girls' education and the real violence and trauma she experienced. It includes mentions of terrorism, the shooting she endured, religious intolerance, and deep emotional grief. While age‑appropriate in language, themes of violence and trauma may be intense. We recommend a brief preview or supportive conversation with students.
I recommend this course for upper elementary age children and older. As with any children's resource, please refer to trusted sources for reviews before reading. For your reference, we have linked Common Sense Media's review.
