Go Outside on an Adventure: Lake Visit

Go Outside to a Lake or Large Pond:

If you live near a lake or a large pond, make a visit. Take a clear lidded jar with you.

  • Study the animals and fish that live in or near the water. What do they look like? How do they behave?
  • Using your jar, scoop out some of the water. Study the creatures and plants you see in the jar. Are the animals small or large? Can you see them clearly?
  • Take out your Nature Journal and record what you observe. Then sketch something you see today at the lake. Make sure to label your sketches and include the date and time.
  • If you have a microscope at home, you can take your jar of water home and study a few drops under the microscope.
