Go Outside on an Adventure: Lake Visit
The Loch Ness Monster might be a legend, but lakes and ponds are full of real treasures waiting to be discovered!
Let’s go outside to visit a body of water and explore what lives in and around it. Make sure to bring an adult with you!
- Bring a clear jar with a lid so you can safely study the water up close.
- Observe what you see.
- What kinds of animals live in or near the water?
- Do you see fish, frogs, ducks, or insects?
- How are they moving or behaving?
- Scoop up a small jar of water and hold it up to the light. Study the creatures and plants you see in the jar.
- Are the animals small or large? Can you see them clearly?
- Take out your Nature Journal and record what you observe.
- Sketch something you see today at the lake. Make sure to label your sketches and include the date and time.
🕵️♀️ Try This:
If you have a microscope, take a small sample of the water home and look at a few drops under the lens. What tiny life can you find that you couldn’t see before?
