Go Outside on an Adventure: Discover Nature’s Scents

Discover Nature’s Scents

Flowers and plants don’t all bloom at the same time, but there’s always something in nature to see or smell!

Go outside and explore the scents around us.

  • Look closely at the plants near you.
  • Do you notice any flowers or blossoms?
  • What colors do you see?
  • Do any of them have a scent? What does it smell like to you—sweet, spicy, fresh, or maybe even stinky?
  • If you spot lilacs, roses, clover, or other blooming plants, take a gentle sniff (but watch out for bees!).
  • Take out your Nature Journal and record what you observe. Draw one of the flowers or plants you find, then look it up in a book or online to learn its name.

🕵️‍♀️ Try This:
Close your eyes and take a slow breath. How many different smells can you notice outside—flowers, grass, trees, or soil? You might be surprised how many you can name!
