For this book club, we will be using the book, Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O'Dell.
You can purchase it in digital, paperback, hardcover, and audio formats. It is also available at many local libraries. This is the only book you will need for this book club.
You will also need a notebook for your notes, copywork, dictation, and journaling.
Parent Note:
This survival story includes themes of isolation, loss, and resilience. There are scenes of animal hunting, death, and mild violence as the main character struggles to survive alone on an island, but they are not graphic. The tone is thoughtful and reflective, with no profanity or inappropriate content. The book encourages discussions about courage, independence, and respect for nature, making it suitable for upper elementary and middle school readers.
