A Letter to Teachers on How to Use This Course

Important Notes...

We realize there is a lot of information provided. Do not let this overwhelm you. Feel free to skip any parts that do not fit into your schedule or appeal to you.

We have provided you with enough information for 12-13 days' worth of study. However, this course is designed to be self-led. Please make it work for you -- whether that be over several days or several weeks.

About Our Picture Book Unit Study

This unit study is focused on learning about some of the most popular Christmas picture books.

Each lesson starts with a reading selection from a picture book. After the read-aloud, the student can learn new vocabulary words from the book. We also include a grammar section with copywork provided.

Then we follow the learning part of the lesson with rabbit trails into parallel parts of the story and an experienced-based, hands-on activity called magic dust. This part of the lesson helps the child make connections, develop a deeper understanding, and put the new knowledge into action.

About What Is Included

  • Rabbit Trails - In every online book club, we will go on rabbit trails of discovery. We will hop off the traditional roads of literature and meander down paths about science, culture, history, and more.
  • Magic Dust - We will also bring literature to life by sprinkling a bit of magic dust along the way. These hands-on projects will take us into the study. We will touch, see, feel and learn on our new adventures.
  • Writing Projects - We include age-appropriate writing assignments to engage your young writer and help them to develop their writer's voice.
  • Party School - The pinnacle of the Literary Adventures for Kids experience is the Party School! At the end of each unit study, we will celebrate with a party. Invite friends or family over for food and fun! All the ideas for food and activities are included.

About Copywork

Student can choose their own copywork by picking passages from the book. Alternatively, they can use the copywork we have provided in the [Copywork and Dictation] lessons. For more information on Copywork and Dictation and how to use them, click on the article below.

How To Know If You Are Using Copywork And Dictation The Right Way To Teach Language Arts

If you are a Charlotte Mason homeschooler, then chances are the words copywork and dictation have come up repeatedly in homeschool discussions. The late Charlotte Mason, an educator who inspired an entire homeschool philosophy, advocated copywork and dictation as two of the key components to educating children in language arts.

About The Certificate

Once the student has completed the course, they will receive a certificate. You may print this out for your records.
