Rabbit Trail: Canter Versus Gallop
Estimated Time: 2 minutes
In Book the First, Chapter 2, the coachmen argue over whether the approaching rider is cantering or galloping. Each way a horse moves - walking, trotting, cantering, and galloping - tells us something about the speed and the situation. Walking is the slowest, trotting is a bit faster, cantering is quick but steady, and galloping is the fastest, often used in races or urgent situations.
Watch this video that demonstrates each of these movements, so you can see the differences for yourselves.
