For this book club, we will be using the book The Giver by Lois Lowry. You can purchase it in digital, paperback, hardcover, and audio formats. It is also available at many local libraries.



You will also need a notebook or binder for your notes, vocabulary, and writing.

This dystopian novel explores mature themes such as government control, loss of individuality, and the ethics of conformity. It includes euthanasia, infanticide, emotional suppression, and death, though descriptions are not graphic. Some scenes, like the killing of an infant, may be disturbing for sensitive readers. There is no sexual content, minimal implied violence, and no profanity. The book raises profound ethical and philosophical questions, making it an excellent choice for high school discussion, but families should be aware of its emotionally heavy material.
