The Birchbark House Online Book Club

Adding adventure to the book The Birchbark House

In the course, The Birchbark House Online Book Club, we will read through the book The Birchbark House by Louise Erdrich. As we are reading, we will go on rabbit trails of discovery into the Anishinabe people, their culture, their lands and more. We will find ways to learn by experiencing parts of the book through cooking, art, gaming and more.

We will add a little ancient magic dust.

At the conclusion of the story, we will have a "party school" to celebrate the Ojibwa people and their culture.

"This has been an amazing book club! So much here to enrich this book!"

Dachelle

Dachelle is a former traditional teacher turned homeschool mom. She has a passion for literature and for adding adventure to her homeschool. She has started several book clubs in her community with the idea that each book club should be a celebration of literature. At Literary Adventures for Kids she takes those experiences and uses them to create online book clubs that add that little bit of magic to your children's education.

“Education should be a living, breathing, tangible thing.”

Frequently Asked Questions

When does the course start and finish?
This is a self-paced course. There are no starting or ending dates. Feel free to use at your leisure.
How long do I have access to the course?
After enrolling, you have unlimited access to this course for as long as you like - across any and all devices you own for the lifetime of Literary Adventures for Kids.
What ages of children is the book club for?
The book, The Birchbark House, has topics that would primarily appeal to upper elementary through middle school.
How long should this book club take my child?
The book club is set up on a lesson by lesson basis. It can take as much or as little time as you and your child feel you want to spend. That said, the original design is for a one-month book study. However, I recommend you choose which projects will be a good fit for your child and not feel obligated to complete all lessons.
What supplies will we need?
You will need the book, The Birchbark House. You may also want a notebook for notes and vocabulary. The project supply list is provided at the beginning of the course. You may choose which projects you will want to do.
Can my child work through this independently?
It will depend on the age of the child. Older children should be able to complete it independently. However, parents will need to be available to help with projects. I recommend parents review the course before their children begin.
Can this be used for more than one child or as a family book club?
Absolutely! We are a homeschooling family, and we encourage all our children to participate in book clubs. Often we will read the book together as a family read-aloud and then work through the rabbit trails and magic dust together.
Can I use this course with my co-op or school?
Yes. Please contact me at [email protected] for information about school and co-op licensing.
What if I am unhappy with the course?
We would never want you to be unhappy! If you are unsatisfied with your purchase, contact us in the first 5 days and we will give you a full refund.
